Shine the spotlight on honour based abuse.
The organisation Karma Nirvana ensured that the sixth Day of Memory - 14 July, was an opportunity to amplify the experiences of victims and survivors of Honour Based Abuse. With a call to ‘shine a spotlight on honour based abuse’, to help raise awareness, many activists, supporters and other organisations came together to share images and information to educate and disprove myths.
Karma Nirvana have created a free communications toolkit with factsheets and resources designed to help #ShineTheSpotlight on Honour Based Abuse across your professional and personal networks.
The toolkit aims to:
• Increase reach, visibility and understanding of Honour Based Abuse
• Increase victim confidence to come forward and professional confidence to identify Honour Based Abuse
• Improve impact and consistency of messaging on Honour Based Abuse
The resources invite us to meet, and read the stories of, the Survivor Ambassadors who are men, women and children from all cultural and religious backgrounds who have survived honour-based abuse and forced marriage. They are heterosexual, LGBTQ, British citizens, dual heritage and foreign nationals. As Karma Nirvana say, “honour-based abuse does not discriminate, and we are passionate about making sure every survivor is represented and supported in our community”. Please make time to engage with the toolkit and to read the stories of the Survivor Ambassadors.
